Oatmeal has no characteristic taste and they are versatile for use. We can use then anywhere we want to make a simple, good, nutritious and easily digestible dish.

Oatmeal Not Only in the Kitchen

Interest in oatmeal keeps increasing approximately since the 1960s. It the U.S., oatmeal was very popular also in the 1980s. They were most frequently prepared in the form of porridge. In rational diet, they form a basis for various dishes and spreads. They are even added into some alcoholic beverages; they are even used in cosmetics in soaps and body milks on the basis of oats milk. They are also used in medicine and as a seasoning for dogfood.

Most frequently, oatmeal is used to thicken soups, but it is also great for various porridges, stuffings, meatballs, meatloaves, as a coating for frying instead of breadcrumbs; we can also use fried oatmeal for sprinkling instead of cheese. We also add them into various vegetable dishes - to make the dish richer and to make it more coherent. We can also use oatmeal to prepare sweet desserts, cookies, cakes, pancakes... Finely ground oatmeal can even substitute flour.

Oatmeal for Breakfast

Honey Oatmeal

Ingredients

  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 2 tbs honey
  • 1 tbs butter

Honey Oatmeal - Preparation

Fry the oatmeal on a Teflon pan until they turn golden. Then, push them away from the centre and melt the butter in the centre. Use the butter to mix in honey and oatmeal. Fry everything quickly so as to prevent the mixture from getting sour. Take it off the fire and let it cool down. We can eat the mixture as it is or add it into a yoghurt, etc. You can also improve the mixture by adding some cinnamon.

Oatmeal Porridge

Ingredients

  • 50 g oatmeal
  • 0.25 litre water
  • 1 tsp butter
  • 1 tsp honey

Oatmeal Porridge - Preparation

Heat up some water and add the oatmeal in it. Keep stirring it constantly and make it boil. Sweeten the porridge with honey, pour it into a deep bowl and place a piece of butter on top.

Oatmeal Crepes

Ingredients

  • 150 g oatmeal
  • 2 eggs (whites suffice)
  • 200 ml milk
  • sugar

Oatmeal Crepes - Preparation

Put milk, sugar and salt into a blender and blend up a smooth matter. Add oatmeal and you get a slightly thicker matter. Pour an appropriate amount of dough into a heated pan, spread it on its entire surface and fry on both sides. If you use a teflon pan, you may even fry without using any fat.

Oatmeal Grenola

Ingredients

  • 3 tbs oatmeal
  • 150 g sour cream
  • 1 tbs raisins
  • 1 tbs chopped nuts
  • 1 tbs honey
  • half an apple

Oatmeal Granola - Preparation

Put oatmeal in a bowl and mix it with cream. Add raisins, nuts and sweeten it with honey. Slice an apple into small slices. You can prepare it a couple of hours in advance; it will make the oatmeal smoother.

Oatmeal Soup with Carrots

Ingredients

  • 200 g carrot
  • 2 tbs oatmeal
  • 1 tbs oil
  • vegetable or meat broth
  • 1 onion

Oatmeal Soup with Carrots - Preparation

Fry the chopped onion on oil and add grated carrot and a pinch of salt to make the carrot release its juice. Pour boiling broth over it and add the oatmeal. Boil everything for 15 minutes.

Such soup is suitable if you are fighting constipation. It contains soluble and non-soluble dietary fibre, vitamins of the groups A and B, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.

Oatmeal Soup with Garlic

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • garlic to your taste
  • vegetable or meat broth
  • 4 tbs oatmeal
  • parsley leaves
  • marjoram
  • salt
  • 1 tbs fat

Oatmeal Soup with Garlic - Preparation

Fry the finely chopped onion on heated fat, add the oatmeal and fry it until it turns pink. Then pour the borth over everything and boil until everything softens. Season the soup with garlic pressed with salt and marjoram. Boil shortly. Then serve with chopped parsley.

"Tripe" Oatmeal Soup

Ingredients

  • 2 carrots
  • parsley
  • quarter celery
  • 4 tbs oatmeal
  • 2 tbs very fine flour
  • 2 tbs oil
  • 1 tbs butter
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • meat broth
  • 2 tsp sweet ground paprika
  • salt
  • marjoram

"Tripe" Oatmeal Soup - Preparation

Fry the oatmeal and the flour on oil, pour the broth over them and mix everything together. Cut the cleaned vegetables into noodles or grate it and boil it shortly in the broth. Mix the heated butter with ground paprika and add them into the soup together with pressed garlic, then boil everything together. Season the soup with marjoram, add salt and serve it with bread.

Oatmeal Soup with Cauliflower

Ingredients

  • 1 medium-sized cauliflower
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1.5 tbs butter
  • 0.5 tbs vegetable fat
  • 0.5 tbs dried yeast
  • 2 tbs oatmeal
  • parsley
  • salt

Oatmeal Soup with Cauliflower - Preparation

Boil the cauliflower in salty water until it softens. Then remove it and put butter and oatmeal into the cauliflower water and boil them for about 15 minutes. Strain the soup through a sieve or blend it in a blender, then add an egg yellow and pour it over the boiled disintegrated cauliflower. Add finely chopped parsley and yeast.

Oatmeal Soup with Cream

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oatmeal
  • 3 tbs butter
  • 200 ml cream 12%
  • vegetable broth
  • 4 tbs chopped chives
  • 1 pinch salt

Oatmeal Soup with Cream - Preparation

Fry oatmeal on butter shortly, pour water over it, add the broth and boil for 10 minutes. Add salt to taste, then add cream and boil for another 10 minutes. Serve with chopped chives.

Ingredients

  • 50 g carrot
  • 50 g parsley
  • 50 g cabbage
  • 1 onion
  • 50 g dried mushrooms

  • marjoram
  • salt
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbs parsley

Potato Pancakes with Mushrooms and Oatmeal - Preparation

First, prepare a thick oatmeal porridge. Submerge dried mushrooms into lukewarm water for a little while and then boil them for about 10 minutes. Then put a tablespoon of oil into a pan and use it to fry the chopped onions, then add other vegetables and stew it together until everything softens. Then mix everything together - the porridge, the vegetables, the mushrooms - and add eggs, salt, parsley, pressed garlic, and make little pancakes (5-6 cm in diameter). Then fry them on oil on both sides until they turn golden. Such pancakes are suitable either as an autonomous dish or as a side dish for meat and vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 150 g oatmeal
  • marjoram
  • garlic

  • chopped parsley

  • 200 ml broth
  • 100 g boiled or frozen vegetables (peas, corn, carrot, etc.).

Oatmeal Vegetable Flapjacks - Preparation

Mix all the aforementioned ingredients (apart from eggs and vegetables) together and add the broth. Mix everything well and leave it to grow for an hour and a half. Then add the eggs, vegetables and stir well. Season to taste. Use the prepared mixture to make little flapjacks which you fry on oil on both sides.

Ingredients

  • 100 g oatmeal
  • 300 ml milk
  • 50 g very fine flour

  • 1 eggs
  • 10 g yeast

  • whipped cream

Oatmeal Crumpets - Preparation

Submerge the oatmeal into a part of the milk for an hour; add flour, salt, eggs and leaven made from the yeast. Add the remaining milk and work runny dough. Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients

  • 150 g oatmeal
  • 200 ml water
  • 150 g sugar
  • 240 g very fine flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Oatmeal Cookies - Preparation

Pour water over oatmeal. After a little while, add other ingredients and work dough, spread it and make holes in it with a fork. Cut out circles or other shapes with a cutter and bake them in a heated oven for about 10 minutes.
